Paintbox

My wonderous landscape
of spring-time memories
fill my being with joy
all the blood reds
and the lincoln greens
and mustard gold
coloured leaves, falling
at my feet
in picturesque disorder

The brightest picture-days joy
in my inchoate heart
Those silky paintbox
watercolours found
only in my tears
and in my lonely times
without your soft
shining eyes, the colours
fade away to sepia
and return to
my parched
forgotten night
