A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What one can be, one must be.

Poetry from Online Poets

Joni Mitchell -

For me, she is the master of simile and metaphor. Easily my favorite poet and singer songwriter of any time since the 60s. The best? Certainly a matter of taste, however, not many have topped her output and quality over such a span of time. 40 years! Early on a folk artist, she delved into contemporary pop-jazz arrangements with Tom Scott and The L.A. Express. Later, working with jazz greats Path Metheny and fretless bass master Jaco Pastorius on breathtaking works like Hejira. Her work turned again in the late 70s, deeper into more complex jazz arrangements, culminating with a collaboration with roots jazz legend Charlie Mingus just prior his death in 1979. Since then she has worked with and been produced by pop/rock synth wizards Thomas Dolby and Billy Orbit. She now works with, and has for many years, co-produced almost exclusively with her ex-husband, bassist Larry Klein.

Great duets by Joni have also spanned the past 20 years. They include songs with Don Henley , Peter Gabriel, James Taylor, Willie Nelson, Tom Petty, and Robbie Robertson. Check out the

I want to achieve it through not dying."

Pablo Neruda -  (1904 - 1973)

No one in the Spanish world of language is better known for their grasp of beauty and image than the outstanding Chilean activist and poet, Pablo Neruda.

A quote from Liat Mayer says a great deal as to why he had such great reach as a poet:

"Universal, when translated, and eternal when read. He is your lover and the beggar and the books, as well as the woods and the unsettled confusion of our past. Pablo Neruda let the rivers and the forests enter him with the wind and the songs of the streets."

Neruda's words are truly a special voice. There is something in the balance of is poems of passion or nature that evoke a sense of ease; a quiet longing as if he were composing a photograph and hoping for the best possible result.
